The Saxon company JT Energy Systems has successfully completed the construction of a stationary battery storage system with a peak output of 25 megawatts in Freiberg. According to JT Energy Systems, the stationary system is primarily used for load shifting and is therefore intended to store energy in times of oversupply so that it can be fed back into the grid later if required. "Especially against the background of the current energy shortage, we need efficient ways to store regenerative energy," says Reinhild Kühne, Managing Director of JT Energy Systems: "The storage system helps to stabilize energy prices and make the energy transition a success."
According to the joint venture between the battery manufacturer Triathlon and the logistics company Jungheinrich AG, a large proportion of the 10,000 modules in the 25-megawatt system come from used lithium-ion batteries from Jungheinrich electric forklift trucks and, to a lesser extent, from cars Construction of the facility started in January 2022.
