The Serbian company ElevenES has developed what is currently the largest lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cell. The first batches of the fully European-made product are scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2023 for customer testing. The cell itself is to be presented to the public at an international event later this year. ElevenEs is currently planning to build a gigafactory with an annual capacity of 16 gigawatt hours in Subotica.

Production setup is proceeding as planned

According to CEO Nemanja Mikać, the build-up of production is on schedule. ElevenEs wants to increase the current production capacities to 300 to 500 megawatt hours soon. The company also intends to offer the market three different EDGE battery cell sizes in a prismatic format that are competitive with any bulk battery currently available on the global market.

The first giga-scale stage will come at the end of 2025

The laboratory and the research and development center have been in operation since June 2021. The first stage of the production facility is expected to be completed by January 2023. The first stage of production of eight gigawatt hours with a capacity that can supply batteries for around 200,000 electric vehicles annually is expected for the end of 2025. A further expansion plan is to be announced shortly.
