The US company EnPower has opened its first production facility for fast-charging batteries in Indianapolis. The facility will be used to manufacture next-generation lithium-ion batteries. The 8,500 square meter production site went into operation with an initial capacity of 800 megawatt hours and is expected to increase to more than one gigawatt hour in the near future.
EnPower's multi-layer technology has attracted attention because it is said to enable repeated rapid charging without damaging battery degradation or impacting performance and energy density. According to the company, this is achieved, among other things, by layers of different porosity in the coating.
