The German developer of battery systems Lion Smart has announced that it will relocate part of its battery system production from the Bavarian BMW site in Dingolfing to Thuringia. Specifically, the subsidiary "LION Smart Production GmbH" is relocating the newly acquired production facilities to Thuringia.

Ambitious schedule

The complete relocation of production should be completed in November. The systems at the Dingolfing site should be dismantled by the end of this month. 

After a qualification phase, the group wants to deliver the first battery packs from the production of the new plant from February next year.

New location offers growth opportunities

The first nine of around 60 trucks that will be used to transport the entire production plant have already arrived at their destination. At the new location in Hildburghausen, the system will be set up on an area of 30 x 50 meters and will thus take up around 60% of the 2500 square meter production hall.

In an existing high-bay warehouse with an area of 1425 square meters, Lion Smart can store around 18,000 battery cells. As a result, the company is aiming to serve orders with a larger volume in the future.

Around four million battery cells are to be assembled in Thuringia every year in two-shift operation. The process is almost completely automated.
